Friday is considered very important in Islam. The Holy Quran has ordered to go to the mosque quickly on Friday. Apart from that, important deeds have been mentioned in the Hadith. It has been said, "O you who believe!" When the call to prayer is issued on Friday, rush to the remembrance of Allah and refrain from trading. That would be better for you, if you knew.

Then when the prayer is over, disperse throughout the land and seek Allah’s bounty (provisions) and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.’ (Surah: Juma, Verses: 9-10)

Below is a discussion of some of Friday's significant actions—

1. The special status of Friday.

It was narrated from Abu Lubaba bin Abdul Munzir (RA), in the Hadith, that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) mentioned five characteristics of Friday. They are—

  1. Allah created Adam (AS) on this day.
  2. Allah Almighty sent Adam (peace be upon him) down to earth on this day.
  3. On this day, He caused Adam (peace be upon him) to die.
  4. On this day, there is a time when Allah will grant whatever a servant asks of Him. As long as he does not ask for anything forbidden.
  5. On this day, the Hour will occur. (Ibn Majah, Hadith: 895)

2. Performing Friday Prayer.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), according to Salman Al-Farsi, stated, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, uses oil, has perfume from his home, then comes to the mosque, does not leave a gap between two worshippers, prays the prescribed amount of prayer, then remains silent when the Imam starts speaking, then Allah will forgive his sins between the two Fridays.’ (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 883)

In another hadith, Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, ‘The five daily prayers, from one Friday to the next, and from one Ramadan to the next, expiate the sins between them, provided that the person abstains from all major sins.’ (Muslim, Hadith: 233)

3. Taking a bath on Friday.

Taking a bath on Friday and going to the mosque early is a very rewarding act. It was narrated from Aws bin Aws Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, goes to the mosque early, sits close to the Imam, and listens attentively will receive a reward of a year's fasting and prayer for every step he takes.” (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 345)

4. Entering the mosque first.

Entering the mosque first on Friday and listening attentively has special importance.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever takes a bath on Friday and then goes to the mosque first is as if he has sacrificed a camel. Whoever enters the mosque after that is as if he has sacrificed a cow. Whoever enters after that is as if he has sacrificed a goat. Whoever enters after that is as if he has sacrificed a chicken. Whoever enters after that is as if he has given an egg in charity.” Then when the Imam comes to deliver the sermon, the angels begin to listen to the discussion.’ (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 841)

5. Dua is accepted on Friday.

There is a time on Friday when a person makes a dua to Allah and Allah accepts it. It was narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘If a Muslim supplicates to Allah for something good on Friday, Allah will grant it to him. So seek that time after Asr.’ (Abu Dawud, Hadith No.: 1048)

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘There is a time during the twelve hours of Friday when if a Muslim supplicates to Allah for something at that time, Allah, the Great and Almighty, will grant it to him. So seek that time at the end of Asr. (Abu Dawud, Hadith No.: 1048)

6. Reciting Surah Kahf.

One of the Friday acts is reciting Surah Kahf. It was narrated from Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites Surah Kahf on Friday, it will be a light for him between the two Fridays. And whoever recites the last 10 verses of this Surah, then the Dajjal will not be able to harm him when he comes out.” (Sahih Targhib, Hadith: 1473, Al-Mustadrak: 2/399)

7. Sins are forgiven.

It was narrated from Salman Al-Farsi that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, uses oil, uses perfume from his house, then comes to the mosque, does not leave a gap between two worshippers, prays the prescribed amount of prayer, then remains silent when the Imam starts speaking, then Allah will forgive his sins between the two Fridays.’ (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 883)

8. Sending blessings.

It is obligatory to send abundant blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) on Friday. It was narrated from Aws bin Abi Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ‘The best of your days is Friday. On this day, Adam (peace be upon him) was formed. On this day, he died. On this day, the trumpet will sound, and everyone will be made to faint. So grant me numerous blessings on this day. Because your benefits are given to me on Friday. The companions asked, 'How will our benefits be offered to you when your body will soon be exhausted?' He stated, "Allah has forbidden the earth from consuming my body.’ (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1047)
