How the Tablighi effort began.
How the Tablighi effort began. |
Dawat and Tablighi are the means of awakening people's interest in religion. The work of dawat is to make them religious, to make them pious. When someone's interest in religion arises in his mind, he has to take lessons from the Quran and Sunnah to fulfill that interest. He should come to those who are working for knowledge and learn about religion, and only then enter the field of Tablighi.
That is why, before starting the work of Tablighi, Hazratji Ilyas (Rahmatullah Alaihi) spent a long time in the company of great scholars like Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, Ashraf Ali Thanvi, Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (Rahmatullah Alaihi) and Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmudul Hasan.
Hazratji Ilyas Kandhalvi was a well-known Indian scholar. He was born in Kandla, India, in 1885. As a child, he finished memorizing the Quran.
The Tablighi Jamaat invites people to follow the path of Allah.
After that, he attained a high status in the knowledge of Sharia and Tariqa under Allama Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (RA) for 10 long years. In 1908, he took lessons in Bukhari and Tirmidhi from Shaykhul Hind Mahmudul Hasan (RA) at Darul Uloom Deoband. After that, Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri administered an oath to him. Two years later, he joined Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur as a teacher.
A few days later, he started his work of Tabligh at Banglawali Masjid in Nizamuddin, Delhi. This great Da'i, Muballig, and Alim of the 20th century created history in the field of Da'wah and Tabligh. He started the Tablighi Jamaat in 1920 to bring back the glory of Islamic principles and ideals among ordinary Muslims. The Tablighi Jamaat invites people to follow the path of Allah. The main objective of the Tablighi Jamaat is to teach people that it is not difficult to follow the Quran and Sunnah while keeping everything in order in personal life, office, business, and commerce.
Regarding the objective of the Tablighi Jamaat, Ilyas (may Allah have mercy on him) said, ‘I want to build a mutual bond between the Ulama and the common people everywhere through this faith movement.’ (Malfuzat, Malfuz No. 102).
Tablighi work is the work of building a beautiful life.
Ilyas (may Allah have mercy on him) also said, ‘Our Tablighi work is the work of building a beautiful life. And success and achievement lies in following its principles properly. An important principle of this work is to understand the mentality of Muslims and present the call of Islam to them. There are generally three levels among Muslims. One. The poorest class. 2. The advanced class. 3. The scholars. The way in which these three classes should be treated is mentioned in this hadith: ‘Whoever does not love our younger ones, respect our elders, and honor our scholars is not from us.’ (Malfuzat, Malfuz No. 135).
Ilyas (may Allah have mercy on him) said, ‘One of the principles of Tablighi work is not to act independently according to one’s own will; rather, to act according to the advice of those elders on whom our predecessors had placed their trust in religious matters and whose special relationship with Allah is universally acknowledged. The general rule of the Companions after the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was that those whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) had placed the most believe in would also have the most trust in them. In later times, those elders in the religion, whom Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA) trusted, were more trustworthy.’ Then he (RA) said, ‘It is necessary to be very careful in choosing trustworthy people for religious work; otherwise, there is a risk of great misguidance.’ (Malfuzat, Malfuz No. 143).
Regarding going to scholars with the intention of learning the religion, Hazrat Ji Ilyas (RA) said, ‘Our Tablighi companions should go to three categories of people specifically for three purposes. The purpose of going to the service of Ulama and elders in the religion is to learn the religion from them. The purpose of going to people of lower classes than yourself is to strengthen your faith by preaching religious discourse. And the purpose of going to people of different classes is to adopt their good qualities.’ (Malfuzat, Malfuz No. 86).
O Tablighi brothers!
It is important to preserve the golden principles that have made Hazrat Ji's efforts widely accepted.
