Allah Ta'ala says, ❝Tell the believing men that they should restrain their gaze and guard their private parts.
Aren't you committing adultery with your eyes? |
Allah Ta'ala says, ❝Tell the believing men that they should restrain their gaze and guard their private parts. This is more sacred for them. Indeed, Allah is aware of what they do.❞ (Surah An-Noor: 30)
Won't look a second time after the first viewing
Just as veiling is obligatory for women, it is also obligatory for men. Both are ordered to wear the veil under Islamic law. At the very beginning of this verse, it is said about the believing men that they should lower their gaze. The willful glance or gaze is the beginning of sexual desire, and its end is sin and adultery with their dire consequences.
Narrated by Hazrat Burayda Ibn Al-Hasib (R.A.), the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Hazrat Ali (R.A.), ❝O Ali! Won't look a second time after the first viewing, You will be forgiven for the inadvertent look. But will not be forgiven for the next sight.❞ (Abu Dawud: 1/292). He (ﷺ) said to men, "One of the rights of the path is to restrain the gaze." (Sahih Bukhari: 6229).
In the chain of Abu Hurairah (RA), the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The portion of adultery written on the child of Adam will surely be received by him. Indeed, the Jina of the two eyes is to look (at what is forbidden), the Jina of the two ears is to hear, the Jina of the tongue is to converse, the Jina of the hands is to hold fast, the Jina of the feet is to walk, and the Jina of the heart is lust. And the place of shame verifies it or proves it false.❞ (Sahih Muslim: 6647)
Imam Ghazali (RA) has said, "Without controlling the eyes, it is impossible to control the sins." And the mind is restrained, and the heart is restrained. A restrained heart is a restrained place of shame. As a result, life is moderate, inshallah. The relationship between one and the other is quite deep. Think about how beautiful the system is, Subhanallah.
Imam Ghazali (R.A.) also said, ❝Uglyness creates suspicion in the heart. Later, it becomes a fantasy. Imagination fuels biological urges. And the biological urge gives rise to desire.❞ So after looking at the adulteress, the desire for adultery arises. The name of the first ladder of adultery is lust. To avoid adultery, the first step is to avoid the evil eye.
It is not permissible for non-Mahram men and women to meet without a veil before marriage.
Apart from the veil of clothing, it is very important to veil a man's eyes and mind. No matter what condition women are in, you cannot look at them because you will go to Jannah. Depending on your fear of Allah, the actions of that woman will not be in your hands. So you have to point the finger at yourself. Even if you catch your eye by mistake or if you fall behind unintentionally, you have to restrain yourself and remove your eyes. This is the rule of wearing eyes once. Then the eyes have to be lowered, and the vision has to be shifted. Because this is God's command. Accepting religion without argument is the best sign of a believer.
According to Islam, marriage between men and women is not valid; they are called Mahram. Meeting with them is permissible. And among those whose marriage is valid, they are called non-mahram. It is not permissible for non-Mahram men and women to meet without a veil before marriage. It is forbidden, and poets sin. Mahram for a man is: mother/mother-in-law/step-mother, grandmother, grandmother, sister/mother-in-law/step-sister, mother-in-law, daughter/mother-in-law/step-daughter, father-in-law, aunt, brother's daughter, son's wife, son's wife, step-son's wife, and granddaughter. There are certain rules of veiling that apply equally to both men and women. For example, the rule of satar, the rule of gaze, the rule of association between men and women, etc.
O you who believe, accept Islam in full
Allah Ta'ala says, ❝O you who believe, accept Islam in full, and do not follow the path of Satan, surely he is your open enemy. But if you go astray after clear signs come to you, then know that Allah is Mighty and Wise.❞ (Surah Baqarah: 208, 209)
Abu Huraiya (R.A.) narrated that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say, ❝Whatever I forbid you to do, abstain from it, and whatever I command you to do, do it to the best of your ability.❞ - (Sahih Muslim: 4/ 1830)
Therefore, in this age of sedition, every believer should guard his eyes, guard his tongue, guard his heart, and guard his private parts. And keep your Iman alive by always following Mahram or non-Mahram. Also, be careful while using social media. And refrain from uploading pictures of women on social media. May Allah Ta'ala grant us all the grace to know, understand, and obey the truth. Amen.
