Why do famines and disasters occur? |
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) pleaded with Allah to protect the Ummah of Muhammad from 5 terrible deeds or actions.
Those 5 deeds or actions are:
- If they start being shameless, diseases including plague will appear that their ancestors have never seen.
- If they start losing weight, they will experience famine and exploitation by tyrant rulers.
- If they stop paying Zakat, they will be deprived of the rain of mercy. Not a single drop of which would have fallen if there were no animals or birds.
- If they start breaking promises, various enemies will prevail over them and seize their wealth.
- If they start committing adultery openly as a permissible act and drinking alcohol and singing, Allah will be displeased and order an earthquake to start. (Ibn Majah).
Worst person will leader of the people.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has informed us about some other things after mentioning the causes of the calamity. Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, When wealth is acquired through illegal means, when someone is trusted and entrusted with wealth but is betrayed (i.e., the wealth of which is not returned). Zakat will be seen as a fine. Knowledge will be acquired without religious education. A man will obey his wife but will treat his mother badly. He will draw his friend closer and push his father away. There will be loud noise (talking) in the mosque. The weakest person in the nation will emerge as the ruler of the society.
The worst person will be the leader of the people, a person who gains fame by doing bad deeds will be respected for fear of his bad deeds. Musical instruments and female singers will become widespread. Alcohol will be consumed (alcohol will be spread under different names). The people of the last generation will curse their predecessors. There will come a time when a strong wind will blow and an earthquake will submerge that land (it will become a pile of rubble or enter the interior of the earth).’ (Sahih Tirmidhi).
Allah destroys the wealth of interest.
The prevalence of interest is increasing, and sin is not considered as anything. Externally, it can be seen that the usurers are accumulating mountains of wealth. But that wealth cannot give them happiness at all. On the other hand, the recipients are crushed under the pressure of interest and eventually become landless. Therefore, Allah Almighty warns the servant in the Holy Quran, ‘Allah destroys the wealth of interest.’ (Surah Al-Baqarah: 286).
Some may think that wealth increases through interest. In fact, Allah Almighty destroys the wealth of interest in this worldly life. For example, wealth is stolen, unnecessary expenses are excessive, etc. Another aspect of the destruction of wealth is that the usurer cannot benefit from the wealth he has earned. Due to which, as a result of interest, famine descends on the country. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Masud (RA) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (SAW) that the community in which interest is prevalent falls prey to famine. (Musnad Ahmad).
As a Muslim promise cannot be broken.
It is the duty of every human being to keep his promise. But without doing so, the promise is always broken. Due to which the other party is harmed. Therefore, the beloved of Allah (SAW) said, narrated from Hazrat Ali (RA). The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, ‘Doom to him! Doom to him! Doom to him! Whoever makes a promise and then breaks it.’ (Mujamul Awsat).
